Product Overview

Whirlpool - a leader in home appliances for decades (and will probably be on top for many more years to come) have spent those years very making sure that they produce and create appliances for homeowners at prices that the average person could possibly
afford without breaking the bank and clearing out their wallet.

Years have been spent mastering the development of their products.

Their household machines are the top of the litter and set and raise the bar be them washing machines, dryers, refrigerators or dishwashers. They have been offering these same appliances for all of these decades.

Despite less than lackluster customer service and even worse repair teams customers all seem to love Whirlpool despite those two things – at least more than those who do not like them.

The Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600S Washer is a triple load monster that, according to those who have bought it, either hits a home run or fouls out. key

Key Features

The Whirlpool Cabrio Washer is a great triple load, top loading powerhouse washing machine. It is beyond perfect for the home or the apartment especially if you have a full family.

It is a 150 pound brute that carried a big stick (not literally of course).

It has features that may not be as varied or full as those of other products by Whirlpool but what does it matter?

It has to do your wash and do it well – that is all that matters as long as the job gets done and done effectively.
  • Humongous 4.5 cubic feet capacity – TRIPLE load!

  • Washing system is “direct inject”.

  • Option for deep clean mode.

  • ashing drum is stainless steel.

Plus Points

The line is at all not biased other than the fact that everyone loves this washer.

This Whirlpool brand offers fast washing cycles (among several differing cycles) which are all in place to deep clean your wash like no other and all by using less energy and water.

Your wash will look great and be nearly dry when the spinning cycle is complete which further saves you money and time in drying.

Quiet

As with any washing machine you will always have an issue with noise. The Whirlpool Duet Sport is a very quiet machine, nearly silent in fact.

The downfall here is if you select the highest speed for the spinning cycle. At that speed centrifugal force takes over and the machine cannot, under the laws of physics, help but to vibrate. So using high velocity spinning will cause some vibration to occur.

Easy Fix

Issue with noise is unremarkable as well as the replacement of parts which you will always have to deal with. The only issue with it is having to put up with the customer service line of Whirlpool which is probably one of the worst in the business.

The service people are not that great either.

Large

Whirlpool has created a triple load monster of a washing machine. We are talking about 30 pairs of jeans, an automatic water level so no more guessing per load. The machine also comes with three dispensers. There is one for liquid or powder detergent (high efficiency), liquid bleach and of course fabric softener.

There is an end of cycle alarm that can be turned off or made to either be loud or soft. It is quieter than you would think considering its overall size and amount of wash it can hold.

All in all the Whirlpool Cambria is one great washing machine. It has many features that will all help you in getting the most out of your purchase and for the $1,000.00 price tag associated with

I am certain you will take great care of your machine and that is not going to be too difficult considering it actually includes a drum cleaning cycle!

1 large load killed this machine. A machine that was made for large loads. $70 fee for a technician to tell me that it will take $900 freaking dollars to repair!!!!!!!! I have just had this washer for over a year and it is now scrap metal.

Poorly made washer
by: Unhappy Cabrio owner

Recently the lid on our Cabrio washer became so hard to open and would not close all the way. When I lifted the top of the washer I discovered massive corrosion on the top left side beneath the bleach dispenser. I contacted Whirlpool and they said that corrosion is considered to be cosmetic and they were sorry for my inconvenience.

I have sufficient time on my hand to work on this complaint and I goal is to get the Cabrio washer declared a Lemon under the Texas Lemon law.

If you are looking for a washer do not buy any thing related to the Whirlpool bane.

GREAT MACHINE
by: Anonymous

I'm going to contradict all of these comments. I've had one for 8 years and this thing will flat clean some clothes volume compared to an agitator machine. Yes I've replaced the pump b/c my son left coints in his pocket one time. Last year I replaced the tub rods because it was throwing a balance error code and the grease had worn out. You need to keep it balanced-put a level on top. Now I'm replacing the tub itself for $250 b/c the bearings are shot. All that said it's still the best I've ever had and it's seen more HUGE loads than any other machine ever. It's easy to work on yourself and again it's almost 10 years old.

Started great, ends the same...
by: Kevin

Bought my Cabrio top loader just about 1 1/2 years ago. Still "runs" ok, but left outer top and left side panel have have rust through. The parts/sections that are not totally showing rust have begun to bubble up under the paint.
After reading most of the rust articles, seems like the rust starts around bleach reservoir. bad design?
Well after contacting hhgregg(place of purchase) and then whirpool, i was told by both "sorry" but these things happen.

Guess ill follow other guys advice on wire brush, rustoleum paint. Might as well make it last until it breaks. I will not attempt any repair on this thing except helping it ship off my property.

What an incredible wast of money!
by: Jackson

I thought I was buying the washing machine of the future when I bought my Cabrio several years back. I also thought that I was the only one who had problems with this machine; I was so wrong on both accounts. About two weeks in, the creaking noises started - you know the squeak squeak squeak noise every time the outer basket would move from the gyration of the grater at the bottom - a bad sign. Then the rattling and banging started - which was, I'm assuming, an extension of the squeaking. All the while I was desperately trying to ignore the fact that all my towels and clothes were being SHREDDED. Even washing everything on the "Bulky Load" setting which used more water would shred the... sh....ok, crap, out of everything. Every single load of laundry would be wound together in some sort of weird contortionist trick kind of way. Once again it's the "grater" at the bottom - really this is better than an agitator???? The "grater", in turn, caused the clothes to be so tighlty wound that they are permanently wrinkled. I want to qualify that I've read all the instructions, looked up all advice online, and tried everything under the sun and they all came out the same way. I've been doing laundry for 35 years - "new concept" or not - there is simply nothing you can do to stop this thing from wrinkling. I digress, the problems then started with some real banging. This banging would occur with most loads which would result in them going unbalanced regardless of how I stopped the machine, how I tried to balance the clothes, how I loaded the machine with exactly four towels or four pairs of pants or just underwear.... The banging finally got so bad that the washer would stop - UL UL UL unbalanced load. Thank God, one day it just displayed a code and stopped altogether - never to be started again. It was one of the happiest days of my life to know that I could finally justify the cost of going out and buying a new washer. Thank goodness, also, I am fortunate enough to be financially able to buy a new machine - I know others are not able to do this and are stuck with a piece of crap equipment. That, my friends, is why I am writing this - so others do not make the same mistake and buy any type of machine that is similar to this. You will be wasting your time, money and mental health. Hope this helps, it certainly helped me vent my frustration that an American Company, Whirlpool, would produce such a poorly engineered, poorly executed, poorly contructed piece of utter crap. I saw someone called it the Pinto of washing machines - I concure. Jackson, Tucson, AZ

Cabrio not worth the money - don't buy
by: Anonymous

Machine shakes even with a few socks in it. Whirlpool no help, the certified repairman that could not speak english and charged 45 dollars to un plug the machine for five minutes was a joke. we changed the computer module which has no built in surge protector (this is with be the first thing to go when the electric company has a power outage).

I will never by another whirlpool, kenmore, or any other Piece of Cr@p sold by these series of companies that all manufacture the same machines with a different label.

Another Dissatisfied Customer
by: Steve C

I am another customer who has the same problems as all of the others with the WP Cabrio WTW6600S washer; Pump failed twice, F1 error codes, uL error codes, sounds like a Chinook Helicopter landing. The machine leaves soap residue on clothes and has leaked oil and rust on the floor below. The investment made in this machine($1000) should buy a better quality washer and at the least Whirpool should stand behind their product. I would definitely be in favor of a class action suit to force them to make right to all of us who have purchased this poorly designed washer.
Run don't walk away from Whirlpool brands!!

Unbalanced, soapy loads
by: Leslie A

I bought this machine 2.5 years ago. Was excited about the large capacity top loader machine. Consumer Reports and other reviews gave it high marks. (Should have read reports by owners instead.) Bearings were replaced at 1.5 years. Was told it was because I had used the wrong soap. ( Didn't use the HE soap the entire period of time).

Ok, the bearing problem might have been my fault but MY MAJOR COMPLAINT is that the machine knots the wash items up in one tight lump and becomes unbalanced easily. I've tried small loads, large loads... mixed loads. I must wash sheets and blankets nearly each day and with 12 mintues to go, nearly EVERY wash becomes unbalanced and the machine tries to fly apart. The items inside will be in one tight lump. When I pull the ball of wash items apart there is soapy water throughout the items.

I'm tempted to sell the machine for the amount of a good Kenmore (my prior machine that worked for 14 years!!) and get rid of this one. I makes me angry that I paid a lot of money for this 'highly rated machine' and it has frequent unbalanced loads ( multiple times often on single wash) and soapy residue often left at the end of a wash cycle.

Hope this report helps someone looking for a new washer. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS MACHINE AGAIN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

lack of pride in workmanship, coward of a company
by: danny@att.net

Would whirlpool like a government bailout, I VOTE NO. Whirlpool is what is wrong with America, lack of workmanship and PRIDE. I spent 6 hours removing a rusted stuck inner tub, to get to a pair of shorts caught between inner and outer tubs. I work hard all week , don't need to put up with worthless design. The mighty stock price of whirlpool comes before all logic and sense of right and wrong. This blog is full of hard working North Americans and I wish thing would be different with whirlpool and whirlpool customer service.

wish I had gone with LG
by: Barbara P.

I am a single woman and decided to get the Whirlpool Cabrio set because it was more affordable than the LG set that I REALLY wanted. The dryer has been o.k. but the washer has been horrible. It is now making a bad rattling noise when it goes from one cycle to the next ie: wash to rinse. I have yet to call a repairman because it still works, but I know it will be costly. I have not liked how the clothes come out since day one. They are always tangled up in a big mess and not really clean. Is there a class action suit I can join? I always thought Whirlpool was a respected brand but i will never buy this brand again.

The Ford Pinto of washing machines
by: Chris

Bought a house 1 1/2 ago and came with this POC machine, had to fix pump 4 times, broken wires 2 times and now the bearings are gone no wonder the previous owners left it with the house.
Had a $500.00 Kemore for over 12 years which was sold with the house which was running great.
I can fix just about anything but after reading this why bother, my time is worth nothing and that is worth a lot more than this POC.
Guess I am off to sears to buy a $500.00 washer.
Will load this on my truck go 60mph,100kph and kick it off the back.

Good luck to you all.

Circuit Board Out at 13 months
by: Corioli

Had a bad feeling at Home Depot when purchasing this Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine. The circuit-board controller looked too complicated, and thus prone to failure.

SURPRISE!

13 months into ownership, the machine stopped working properly- would always stop after rinsing, and would not spin dry. Repair guy came out and diagnosed the problem for $50.00: needs a circuit board to the tune of about $350.00 installed.

Whirlpool customer service stated that washer in out of warranty, and that they've never heard of this problem. Yeah, right. I'd call it "customer dis-service."

WORST WASHER EVER MADE
by: ripped of in rhode island

R ya kidding????? I picked Cabrio because Consumer Reports recommended it...I should have known better. Every time I buy their recommendation, every time, that I end up with a lemon---and this washer is no exception.

The entire area around the bleach cup started to rust a few months after the warranty was up. Repeated calls to the company yielded nada....hate it when they keep repeating the party line over and over---your washer is out of warranty...like if they repeat it enough I'll give up. I'll never give up. Our mission is to tell as many of people as possible what a piece of crap Whirlpool makes, how they refuse to stand behind their products, and how aggrivating their supposed "Custoner Service" department is....obviously they do not understand the basic premise of customer service....when a customer pays you a small fortune for a washer---it should last longer than a year or two. When you call to complain about the workmanship, which is obvioulsy Whirlpools fault, you don't make excuses, and you try to make it fix it to the customers satisfaction. RIGHT AWAY. Not counting the 236 people I have already told and emailed----never say you were not warned. Of course, if you like rust stains all over your clean clothes, then this is the washer for you!

W10435302 Substandard crap Whirlpool
by: Cry baby Liberal

This "Bearing" noise is the same noise my 1 year 3 month old machine makes. "THE SEAL DOES NOT LEAK" I looked at the bearing and it says made in Korea. I am not a biggot so that is not what is going on here. This machine, like those cheap "Huffy" bicycles etc, have bearings made out of substandard material. These bearings should be made of a Nickle based alloy not cheap carbon steel. Americans want cheap every thing and when they get it they cry because the crap fails. Then they run to a lawyer who is a member of a PAC that is responsible for the laws that force business overseas. The stinking lawyers make money both ways because they write the laws that are ruining this coutry. So, Buy the bearing fix the cheap import crap and move on to your next appliance repair. Vote for the poor and you will get there.

DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE
by: Anonymous

We purchased the Cabrio machine in fall 2007. I am now fearful of having this machine in my house. The first problem started with the machine not powering on when you pressed the button. From that, we went on to the sound of a jet plane landing in the house and the machine knocking so loudly the floor shook. I actually called Whirlpool and let them hear. Of course the lady acted like she had never heard anything like it before and encouraged me to have someone come out and take a look at the machine. I declined as I purchased the extended warranty and just wanted to make them aware in case the belt broke and flew through a wall in my house. The technician came out and told me that not only were the bearings bad, but the whole top of the machine had rusted away. I kept noticing that there was black dirt on the floor around the machine or so I thought. Oh no....it was RUST. I know that I probably will not get a dime back from Whirlpool, but don't waste your time or money on this machine. I will never buy a Whirlpool product again.

Other than the rust everywhere it's perfect!!!!

Of course it had to be my white comforter cover in there when it finally decided to puke up some beautiful rust water.

I took it apart and and in the process of removing the rust with a wire brush, spray painting underneath with rustoleum...multiple coats....we'll see what happens.

It's either that or buy another washer. I would not buy this product again that's for sure.

Whirlpool Cabrio/JUNK
by: Violet

Add me to the list of "ripped-off" consumers! Paid over $1000 at Lowe's for Whirlpool Cabrio in Oct of '07. Motherboard went out before first anniversary, replaced under warranty. Actually worked okay for next few years only to experience the jet-engine noise and unbelievable knocking of drum while trying to spin-out in spring '12. Code would appear with complete shut-down of operation. Re-arranging to try to balance load did not work. Repairman replaced motor sensor and wiring first trip. Didn't fix. Second trip replaced spin bearings. Didn't fix. He's stumped. Says no way to fix the problem! Oh, did I mention RIPPED OFF by Whirlpool ???!!! Over a GRAND for a piece of junk! This is insane! My mother-in-law has a Maytag washing machine she bought(used)in 1979 and it still works just fine. To say "well, they just don't make them like they use to" enrages me. WHY don't THEY make them ~ like they use to? We're in the 21st century with all kinds of engineering wizards employable.

Would have checked the 0 star if there had been an option. Will join in lawsuit. Whirlpool Corp. is example/symptom of what is major problem in this country. Not taking responsibility! You haven't heard the last from me.

Whirlpool CRAP-RIO Clothes Washer
by: ANGRY & FRUSTRATED

AFTER READING ALL OF THESE POSTS, I CAN ONLY SAY THAT I WISH I HAD READ THEM BEFORE I PURCHASED MY CRAP-RIO CLOTHES WASHER BY WHIRLPOOL. IN THE 11TH MONTH OF OWNERSHIP IT STARTED FLASHING THE UL CODE (UNBALANCED LOAD) MESSAGES DURING EVERY WASH EVEN WHEN I RAN IT EMPTY. BY THE 16TH MONTH IT HAD ALL THE SYMPTOMS LISTED IN THESE OTHER POSTS! AFTER THE SERVICE REP CAME OUT HE TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD NOT PAY ANOTHER DIME BUT CONTACT WHIRLPOOL ABOUT ALL OF THE PROBLEMS BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE TO BILL ME OUT OVER THE COST OF A NEW ONE TO REPLACE ALL THE PROBLEMS IT HAD AND WOULD BE BACK IN A FEW MONTHS WHEN THE WHOLE CABINET RUSTED AWAY AS IT WOULD CONTINUE RUSTING UNTIL IT COULD NO LONGER STAY TOGETHER.
ALL THIS WOULD BE ENOUGH TO CAUSE FRUSTRATION TO ANY CONSUMER BUT MY FRUSTRATION WENT TO ANGER WHEN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPERVISOR(AND THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE OF THE WORDS)POLITELY LIED TO ME STATING THAT THEY CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT MY NON WARRANTY SITUATION AND THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED NO OTHER PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS MODEL.
IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO MAINTAIN MY ANGER WHEN SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD HOWEVER DOCUMENT MY COMPLAINT. WELL, NOW THAT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Terrible wash machine
by: Brian in Houston

Bought our Cabrio washer and dryer in 2007. Dryer has been fine. Washer is another story. Had to replace the board after we got an f1 error code last year. As of this writing, just finished replacing the stabilizing rods (myself for $67 in parts from repairclinic.com) as the machine was shaking violently. Thought that would also cure the loud noise but it did not. Found out the bearings are also bad. This machine is a piece of garbage. I would not recommend it to anyone. I would join the class action suit if anyone gets one started. Seems this machine is plagued with problems as a result of a very poor design and whirlpool is compounding things by denying this and not standing behind their product. NOTE TO WP: first rule of holes is when you find yourself in one, stop digging. In other words - stand behind your product and fix the problems!

Whirlpool Cabrio F16 Fighter
by: Harvey V

This is in reference to our Whirlpool Cabrio washer (WTW6400SW2) purchased on Nov 8, 2007.We have a safety concern issue with our 4 year old washer. About 6 months ago we started experiencing a very loud noise during the spin cycle as the washer spun extremely fast. This noise is equal to the one of a fighter jet engine. Sometimes it'...s heard from outside the house and even intolerable. After talking to customer relations, I was told that the washer is not only out of warranty but that there was nothing she could do. Whirlpool is very well aware of this issue and has chosen to ignore it all together as it is happening to thousands of customers. This is not customer neglect or wear and tear issue, but a defect and there should be a recall. We are very concern about a catastrophic mechanical failure of the washer causing it to explode or even set my house on fire. Since this is a reoccurring problem with this line of model washer, Whirlpool should be fully responsible for the amount of the repairs that are necessary. Whirlpool is refusing to repair it free of charge stating there is nothing wrong with it. We paid $914 for this washer and it should last more than 3 years. I'd done my research online and have seen hundreds of people with the same identical problem.
UPDATE: Received a call on from Stephanie. Whirlpool has agreed to replace the tub at their expense. The new replacement tub we received was defective and A&E Factory advised me against installing a defective part that eventually will crack causing water damage to carpet and sheetrock. A&E Factory technicians mentioned this is a widely spread problem and the parts Whirlpool is using on washers are made in China with very CHEAP materials. I have contacted Stephanie numerous times in the last 3 weeks and she’s not longer returning my calls. Last week the washer started making new noises, as if something is about to give. If my house is set on fire or any of my family members is killed due to this washer, I will make my life’s mission to see Whirlpool goes out of business.

DON'T BUY THIS MACHINE!!
by: Audrey J

My Maytag front-loader died last October. I bought from a local dealer who raved about this machine. Right away we noticed residue left on our dark clothes. They came and did a service call in January, said the hoses were not letting enough water in. They changed the hoses and told me I would need to use the extra rinse. I told them I was on a well. They said these newer machines didn't even come close to using the same amount of water. Well, it's now May, I ALWAYS use the extra rinse, and it's STILL leaving residue. My $40 black blouse is a mess and I can only hope handwashing it will fix it. I hate to sell this machine, because I'd feel too guilty. The machine is a piece of CRAP -- and I don't have the money to buy another one. Don't waste your money on this machine. Go look at a Samsung -- it gets much better reviews.

Piece of Junk
by: W Forest

Typical of many posts. Worked for 2 years and then a worn bearing and also the F51 error code. Its heading to the dumpster. Called Whirlpool support and stayed on hold for 30 minutes, so I had to hang up. They must be busy fielding calls from this pile of crap. Had a repair estimate for $650 dollars. WTF. I wish I could give 0 stars. I think the good posts were from people that worked for Whirlpool. A washer should run for 10 years with no problems. As far as a penny cracking the tub and flooding peoples houses, You figure they would throw a penny in while they are testing them. I, the consumer, am baffled by how a company would destroy their name by not taking care of this.

Worst washer i ever owned
by: Sandy

I purchased the washer only. As my previous Maytag (3 years old) was a piece of junk, and went to the landfill. For some odd reason they mistakenly made a good dryer that is still running after eight years. I paid over $1200.00 for my Cabrio, five years ago. The past few months the "UL" light came on with every single load. The "tub" is insane. Goes all over the place and makes a horrible noise with spinning. Called a tech out. He noted the popular "F1" code and we were informed with all the work it needed, it would cost over $500.00. He also requested that we just "throw it out and buy a new one." Stating Whirlpool has had no luck with Cabrios. They are constantly breaking down. and keeping service techs busy. I spent a lot more than i would have thinking the machine would last longer..What a stupid thought when it comes to this machine. I wasn't initially impressed because it does like to "eat" the clothes at times. Contacted Whirlpool, and they are sending a tech out Friday. No charge. We will see what happens. Because i will not buy another Whirlpool/Maytag washer nor dryer in my future. I do not expect to buy another washer after only five years, that i paid over $1000.00 for. That is ridiculous. They need to stand by there products and make their consumers happy with them period. We are their business..

Total Rip Off!
by: AnAudLife

ATTENTION CONSUMERS!!! Do NOT buy the Cabrio washing machine!!!!!! I've had mine for 4 years, paid a little over $1,000 for it. I'm getting the famous F1 error code that everyone else has gotten and Whirlpool is NOT standing behind their product, they told me all parts and labor will have to be paid by me, not Whirpool. It will cost $400 or more to repair it. For that money I could buy a brand new washer. When sooooo many people's washers are doing the same thing then obviously there's some sort of flaw, they need to recall and do the right thing by their customers. DON'T BUY A WHIRLPOOL, once they get your money, they don't care!!!

I've signed the petition. I've joined the Class Action Law Suit. I've joined the Facebook page as well.

The worst washing machine ever
by: Anonymous

We purchased our Cabrio and experienced spin problems. The first tech came out and said we cannot wash only a single item so we bought it. 3 weeks later it was intermittently spinning out the water and we often had to re-run the entire wash cycle just to get that lucky one time it would spin the water out of the clothes - one week after that we made our second call, we thought it was the sensing device because it would start to spin up stop then try to accelerate fast and then we would hear a grinding noise. Low and behold the tech said it was not the sensor but rather the washing drum was not secured down and we needed to replace the stripped gears, and it could take up to 2 weeks to get the part. My wife called the owner of the appliance store who happens to go to her church and he made good that if they could not get a replacement part in a couple of days he would replace it. I guess we'll have to wait and see if he makes good on his promise but buyers beware, this is the worst washing machine we have ever purchased. Don't buy it even at severely discounted prices - you'll pay for it later in service visits once the warranty runs out.

find a lawyer for suit against whirlpool, sears and anyone who sell this POS
by: Mel n' Dee

My wife bought the wtw5600 from Sears in 2011 in Torrance, Ca. She thinks that a rock and a stream would be a better deal.
There is no way to reset it after it starts, so the program that controls it must be written and approved by someone who 's never used a washing machine..ever!! (Their mom could have helped them if they had only asked!!)
There must be a lawyer out there who will take on Whirlpool for making and marketing this POS. While we're at it, put Sears in the crosshairs for recommending and selling it also. Southern Cal Edison and our local water suppliers gave a rebate for buying this POS.. they should also be targeted.. ok .. maybe targeted is a little strong. But they should also be brought to the table for some form of complicity in recommending this POS.
The battle cry of "Buy American Made" has been dented by Whirlpool.

BIG MISTAKE
by: Anonymous

We bought our Cabrio in 2007. BIG MISTAKE..It started with the default "F" code problem. Cost $ 450 plus for a new motherboard. "F" code reappeared four months later. Repaired no problem. Recently, the bearing has gone out. Technician after turning it on right away shut it off. His call $ 600 to replace the bearing. Whirlpool is getting away with ripping off too many of us. It's time we all band together. Some suggestions. Picket in front of Whirlpool dealers. Contact local media. Contact governemnt officials. Set up a web site called "Whirlpool Cabrio Sucks". Like they say, there is power in numbers. It's time Whirlpool face the music and danse.

We said goodbye to POS
by: Anom in Ithaca

Last year at this time we finally said good bye to our POS Cabrio. The Whirlpool/Maytag company convinced us to never buy any of their products ever again. We bought a Samsung front loader, large capacity washer. It's so nice not to hear a jet taking off, oil on clothes, and pools of water on the floor. Good luck to all. The Whirlpool Cabrio was fantastic when we first got it. It didn't take long for us to start worrying about what we had bought.

Not a good design!
by: Paul

Have also have a Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600S purchased first part of 2007. It makes noise, shakes wildly and often stops with the uL Unbalanced load error code.
I have searched and found a possible fix.

ok I finnaly figured out way all these cabario washers are shaking real bad after 2-5 years.... Even if no clothes are in them. It is the 4 suspension rods. even though they look completely normal there not. They come in a set of 4 at the local supply house.  There is water in the top and bottom of the inner tub that is normal. They even redesigned the rods by adding another bushing......http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?topic=6645.0

I have bought parts for my Jenn-Air range with positive experience. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5153034&diagram_id=29385644#d29385644

Very Disappointed
by: Edward

Thought I was the only one having problems with this product.... OMG. I bought my set about 5 years ago the Dryer is great the washer needs serious help. I have had to have it repaired twice in the 5 years the first time was 2 months after the warrenty ran out. The main computer board went out. Second time one one of pump motors went out. Both time I had to buy the extended warrenty ($250) and now the UL light come one and it will not spin at all. I had a set of Whirlpools that I bought in the 80's they lasted 20 years no problems. We decided to upgrade to the HE, what a joke. I just got off the phone with Whirlpool and of course I need to buy another warrenty for $250 for one year. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Whirpool Cabrio Washer
by: Anonymous

I am having the same problems. Whirlpool has fixed the problem causing the F1 code. Along with that problem the bearing is going out. It sounds really, really bad. So loud that even with the door closed you can not hear the TV on the other end of the house. Oil is starting to come out of the bottom. Called Whirlpool again today. They are not going to do anything about this problem. They tried to say that no one else had complained about this issue. I believe the washer stopping and starting due to the F1 code caused the bearing to go bad. I think somehow Whirlpool should be held responsible. Please let me comment if you know anything about this.

Washer or 1965 Corvair???
by: HB Dad

We have had the same problems with our Cabrio. Pump failure because of a penny...fixed that myself for about 30 bucks. It leaves stains on the clothes because there is not enough water to rinse out all of the cloroxII and Downey. Now the main bearing...yes I could fix it myself but I am gainfully employed and not in the appliance repair business, so for me to spend my off time working on my washer would drive me to the nut house. This washer is the Corvair of appliances, it leaks, breaks every week, malfunctions and does not even clean well. I am going to go buy a new washer today and keep it in the garage until this thing is in pieces and then put it up for recycling. No more whirlpool for me.

Now the feaking washer sounds like the runway at JFK.
And of course, Whirlpool won't do anything about it. The claims he has never heard of this issue.

OK, I'm in on the class action!!! 18 months old and I have replaced 1 water pump because in cracked when a penny got in it. Pulled it down 6 times since to remove more pennies. Be sure to remove and empty pump as soon as you hear the gingle. Shaft bearings! yes 18 months and bearings shot. You can however find the bearings at your local bearing shop for less than $10.00! I changed the bearings in 2 hours, really simple job. Just lay the machine on it's side after removing the inner tub and remove the rotor (1 center bolt and then 4 bolts under rotor removes the stator) Then simply remove the threaded nut from the shaft and tap the shaft out from the bottom. After removing the shaft, tap out the lower bearing and replace both. That's it!But good luck finding the seal. It's a shame they won't even sell us the parts.

We bought the Cabrio Washer and DRyer May 2010 - what a disappointment. The washer does not get clothes clean. Perhaps it is because it uses very little water and so the items are not really submersed and since it is a horizontal motion that washes there is no room for submersion. The front load washer at least has the drop motion that would help the process. A lot of money spent for a very poor product. I did phone Whirlpool and that was absolutely useless.

A heads up a little too late for most of these folks, first off do not over load the washer, they say it will do a large load but not if you plan on keeping it. Second be carefully on soap, beach, oxiclean and fabric sofener must be HE types and use way less then normal as the water volume is far less and therefore concentrated. I owned a Matag Neptune washer with the same troubles as in these reviews 5 YEARS MAX, Maytag was bought out after that one. Get the super extended warranty AS I BELEIVE NONE WILL HOLD UP LIKE THE OLD STYLE WASHERS, PS Watch out for that beach/OxiClean / fabric dispenser button must be used everytime, if you forget to push it you will destroy the next load of color cloths with beach. With a white load you would expect it to be automatic!DUMB OPTION SHOULD DISPENSE EVERYTIME.

Recently purchased the Cabrio this fall and have had a service man out 4 times. It is a horrible machine. Every single dark load is covered with lint that we have to remove with a lint sponge.(A real time saver!) Every load is horribly wrinkled - and at least three of my dress shirts have been ripped apart. The last service guy said that there is not enougth water going into the machine to take care of the lint - and because that is how the machine is designed there is nothing they can do about it. Cabrio WTW6600SB2 bearing failure
by: Pete

My 4 year old washer is getting louder and loader when spinning. I'm told the main bearing is failing and that it will cost over $500 to fix.

Since that is more than 50% of the cost of a new washer, I guess my 4 year old washer is going into the landfill.

Whirlpool customer service stated that they have not heard of bearings failing, however when I google the Whirlpool Cabrio top loader, bearing failure is the main complaint. The washer is extremely poorly designed in regards to serviceability. What type of engineer would design a washer in which you need to replace 50% of the product to fix a single point of failure.

I will never again buy Whirlpool products.

Had washer for one year and had same problem as everyone else with F51 code. Turned out to be a bad board. Called Whirlpool and was ready for a fight but to my surprise a recall issue covered this repair. Only 1.5 years later we sat in the living room and the washer sounded like an airplane taking off in my kitchen.

After spending a night online again doing research it appears the tub bearing is going bad. Same problem everyone else is having. Emailed Whirlpool and in not so many words was told sorry about your luck, call a repair man and get it fixed. Cannot understand why a washer that cost $1000 would not last a few more years before needing to have it repaired.

Between the board and the tub it appears that these repairs would amount to near what the washer cost. Have not had the repair yet. Will most likely be shopping for a new washer and not Whirlpool. I can't justify paying for repairs that cost more than the washer in just over 3 years. STAY AWAY FROM THIS WHIRLPOOL WASHER.

Cabrio Washer SUCKS

I rate the washer at 1 star, not this page. It was a super wonderful washer when we first bought it. We loved the size of the tub, and all the beautiful lights that glowed as it washed. We had the F1 problem fixed under warranty within months of the purchase, Now, every once in while the F51 shows up, and we have to turn the washer off, turn it on, a couple of times to be able to open the lid, turn the tub a couple of times, then, maybe it will be fine. But the spin cycle is horrendous, it's so frickin' loud. We've been told by the repair person to just unload the washer once it's totally spent. Only 3 Years old!!!! Nearly $1,000 on this piece of crap!!! Oh how we wished we bought a simple washing machine that would last near 30 years like the one we had before. Does anyone know of a suit going against Whirlpool?

Whirlpool needs to fix the bearing problem as well. When We first purchased this machine we loved it but after 3 years it started breaking down. We paid $800 for the washing that has only lasted 4 years before repair was needed. Not worth it, dont buy it!

Nice when it works - problem is it doesn't work
by: Tom in CA

This is easily the worst purchase I ever made. For $1000, you would expect a top-of-the-line washer that would last at least five years before it begins to give you problems. This thing is a total piece of crap. Replaced the water pump in year two. Here we are in year four and the machine has been on the disabled list for the last month. It will not complete a load without going unbalanced. When it goes unbalanced, you have to start that portion of the cycle again. So a wash that is supposed to take 45 minutes and save water now takes well over an hour and the only way to get the clothes spun dry is to shut off the water at the wall and keep trying the spin cycle until the water is spun out enough that the dryer (which now does 3x the amount of work) can get them dry. Had the Whirlpool recommended repair guy here three times and invested over $200 just in parts (which will cost you over $500 "retail" if you don't bitch enough) while we try to troubleshoot and fix this "mysterious" problem. Whirlpool won't admit they have problems with this machine and apparently doesn't have any "experts" in fixing their own machines on their customer service team.

Bottom line - RUN away from this machine if you can, you WILL be sorry if you don't

This washer SUCKS!
by: PISSED OFF

I too like everybody else has purchased the whirlpool cabrio wtw6600s and it is a piece of junk! The mother board had a recall on it for the F1 code and now the stupid washer will not spin and continues to throw the UL code even when the tube is empty. What a waste of money. My previous washer was a Maytag and worked for us for 10 years with no problems. It is in storage and the only reason we purchased another washer was because we didn't move our Maytag with us. I now wish I would have, we would have more money in our pockets. The dryer has had to be serviced as well for not heating up enough to dry the clothes. I will never buy Whirlpool products again. Once Whirlpool gets your money, they don't care about anything else. It's wrong for Whirlpool to take peoples hard earned money when the products they offer last less than 5 years without problems. If you are thinking about purchasing a Whirlpool Cabrio washer or dryer. DON'T DO IT.........

cabrio is worthless piece of crap
by: dan kelly

i bought my matching set of cabrio washer and dryer based on consumer reports saying it was a good product . also had a buddy buy the same thing. he only lasted 2 years with his , mines going on 2 and a half .

my son and i are experts in taking the little motors out because change gets into one of them and cracks the housing . i know its not whirlpools problem we leave change in the pockets , but i finally put a piece of screen over the house outlet to keep any wayward change from blowing the housing apart . epoxy is my best friend now the machine wont spin .

im temped to go out and buy another brands machine and dump the pieces of crap. what a waste of money.

i will never by another whirlpool or affliate product again

Cabrio is wrong choice
by: Sad in Ithaca, NY

My wife and I are now empty nesters as well. We used to have a Maytag top load washer from the early 80's. That washer was great! I only had to change the anti flow back ting like 3 times in the near 30 years it lived. I did the repairs myself too. Not hard at all.
Then this Whirlpool Cabrio came into our lives only 3 years ago, it's had the F1 recall thing on the mother board, now it's loud on the spin,(not sure if we could afford to get that done) and presently it's waiting repair because the drain pump or something went. It comes up with LD for the error. The tub is full of water, so we did the laundry downtown yesterday. I'm afraid to take the back off of it. I don't think I'd like what I'd see. I kick myself for not getting the extended warranty.

Leaks, bearing failure less then 3 years
by: Ripped of in Carlsbad

Same issues, had a detergent tube leak in the first year, rusting the tub, fixed that, but too late. Rusted inside, one year later gets as loud as you have heard from others, in spin mode. I knew it was a bearing, I called for Estimate to fix it cost me $45. I had no idea what was coming. I could not imagine in my wildest dreams that it could cost $675 to change a bearing on a washing machine. The biggest piece of Crap on the market. Designed to fail.

Not What It Seems
by: DeeDee

We purchased our Whirlpool Cabrio approximately 3 years ago and recently starting hearing a loud noise when the spin cycle took place. It actually sounded like an airplane taking off in our laundry room. I had my brother-in-law come out and take a look at it and he said he had never seen a set-up like this before. It looks like the whole tub and motor have to be replaced, since it is one unit!! It sounds like we are having the same problem that everyone else is having from looking at all the comments on here. We haven't had a technician come out and actually look at it and after reading all these comments, it sounds like it will cost us more to have one come out and have it fixed than it would to just go and buy another washer. This is so disappointing after the money we spent on this washer and was so pleased with it in the beginning. You would think something that cost this much money would last more than 3 years!! Somehow water has even got up under the lid and rusted the whole lid underneath. Does anyone know if there is a class action law suit against Whirlpool for this washer? If so, I would love to know because my husband and I worked hard to just be able to buy this washer to help with all the laundry we have for a family of four. Please post info on here if anyone has heard anything. Please don't buy this washer if you are thinking about it, because I guarantee in 3 years or less, you will be writing a comment with a 1 star rating!!!!!

Can't believe they still sell this piece of junk!
by: Rick

I can't believe they still sell this junk to unsuspecting customers. It's the worst washer - no, I take that back - the worst appliance I have ever owned. It's now renamed and repackaged as the "WTW6800S" or the "WTW7XXX" series, but it's still a complete waste of money. DON'T BUY IT!

I have completely disected this machine after it failed for good. It lasted 3 years, but only because I nursed it along after the first 2 years.

This is a direct drive system. The motor shaft directly drives the wash basket. There are no gears like older washers. Everything is controlled (spin speed and direction) through current in the motor windings. Actually, I love the motor, wiring and computerized controls, but what the motor is connected to is absolute trash.

The problem with this thing is the main bearing (spin bearing) and seal between the motor and the tub. When (NOT IF) the bearing and seals start to fail, bearing grease leaks down and out weep holes in the bottom of the motor. Next to fail is the seal that keeps water in the tub from leaking out, through the bearing and out the same weep holes. All this time, the machine gets louder and louder as the bearing wears out completely. When it gets bad enough metal shavings start coming down, but I doubt most people get that far before taking the machine to the trash dump.

There's more... you can't replace just the bearings and seals. You have to buy the whole outer tub. The bearing is apparently sealed into the tub, which looks like it's probably made of a polycarbonite or nylon material - like the stuff they package things in that's impossible to open without box cutters.

Not done yet... the parts diagram and parts list doesn't even show or list bearing (or the drive shaft). It's a magic machine! The motor runs the washer without any connection at all (if you beleive the "technical" drawing). Like I said, you have to buy the whole tub WHEN the bearing and seals go bad.

Still more... when the bearing starts to fail, you can only tell from the super loud noise. Lift the machine up and everything looks fine. Eventually, gease (and finally water) leaks out of weep holes in the bottom of the motor. Lift the machine up now and you see grease and/or water on the floor but everything else still looks pretty normal. I'll bet more than a few "repair" techs have told owners that nothing is wrong with the machine - it's just noisy.

I owned 2 Whirlpool washers before this one. They each lasted through at least a dozen years of heavy family use and many military moves. Now that we're "empty nesters", this expensive hunk of junk is worthless in just 3 years.

If Whirlpool had invested more in the bearing design, they probably would have an excellent product. What a shame.

After being ripped off by this machine, Whirlpool has seen the last of me. That includes any of their affiliate brand names like Maytag and Roper.

It's leaks
by: Anonymous

I too purchased this machine in 2006, and now it leaks during every wash... I purchased a five year extended service contract and the man came out and said, there was nothing wrong with the machine, and the leak is normal and to ignore it as they all do it with a large load... That's great since the machine sits on my newly painted garage floor, and will eventually make the paint blister and peel... Also, I do not do large loads and it still leaks... The machine is the WTW6600S model..

The machine replaced a 1972 Maytag, that finally died, after many long years of no problems... This piece of garbage from Whirlpool was picked by consumer reports as a star machine... Some star a falling star would better describe it...

My main bearing at least lasted almost 3 years. Agree with all the negative comments. It does not clean clothes, it wrinkles everything and sheets end up in a ball. Absolutely worthless. I'll replace it when it stops working completely and not even try to have it repaired. I can't wait!

CABRIO 6600
by: Anonymous

The washer has stopped spinning. I have a large load of clothes, soaking wet!!!!!!!

Waiting for repairman tomorrow. This is only 28 months old!!!!!

These must be programmed to stop working.
Also the matching dryer door clips break every 6 to 8 months, so you are unable to dry the clothes.
These are not good machines, and Whirlpool could care less.

We have the same problem as most comments I have seen here. Main bearing going out after two years on a very expensive machine.

In addition, we live in Evansville, IN where Whirlpool is closing there plant and moving production to Mexico.

Not only do they "not" stand behind the product, they treat their employees like crap as well.

We say---SELL THAT CRAP SOUTH OF THE BORDER TO THE PEOPLE YOU WANT TO MAKE IT FOR YOU NOW!!!

Buy Whirlpool products---NEVER AGAIN!!!

Try washing Sheets you get this really big ball of material that you have to unravel before it spins.

Pure frustration
by: Anonymous

DO NOT buy this washer!! We bought this expensive washer and have regretted it since the first load. It wads the clothes up so bad that most things will have to be ironed - jeans get terribly twisted and the wrinkles do not fall out in the dryer. And if that wasn't bad enough - in the 13th month we owned it - yes one month out of warranty the bearings started grinding and it began dumping water on the floor. I called Whirlpool 7 times before they agreed to replace the part but I had to pay the labor, appx. $380, for their certified repairman to fix it. I did not have the money so I bought a tray for it to sit in and for the past year I have been sucking the water out of the pan after every wash with a shop vac. The noise gradually got worse and now I wash clothes at my sisters!! Even with all the complaints Whirlpool has failed to own up to their design flaws and sub par parts. I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance - EVER. I also have one of their side-by-side frigs - that the ice maker has been replaced 4 times (and the computer board and some regulator? have been replaced) - they paid for the first two ice makers during the first year, but the last two have been on me.

Save yourself the frustration, hassle, and headaches - DON'T buy WHIRLPOOL.

Expensive mistake
by: R Cassesa

I bought my Cabrio in 2006 and I am very unhappy with it. My whites come out just as dirty as they went in. I now have to pre-soak and double rinse to make sure they are at least semi-clean. The high-efficiency soap seens to be rotting the fabric. In less than three years, I have had to replace towels, washclothes and underwear. It takes 70 minutes to wash a small load. What I have saved in water, doesn't make up for the cost of electricity.
WHIRLPOOL CABRIO WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE MISTAKE.

Bad Choice

I'm very disappointed in this washing machine. It does not clean clothes well. It is very rough on clothes. Each item is very twisted and dryer does not get the "wrinkles" out. I've tried different detergents, different washer settings, small and large loads and nothing seems to help. I cannot recommend this washer.

I will never buy another whirlpool product again
by: Geoff

We purchased our Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer in April of 2007. It was highly recommended over a front loader. We are a typical family and this large capacity washer is more than sufficient. On the good side, it does wash very well and does seem to be cost effective.

HOWEVER, after only TWO YEARS of normal service, the main drive bearing has failed and the entire drive system has to be replaced at a cost that is outrageous. we could buy a regular washer for far less money ! Needless to say, we declined the extended warranty, never thinking that a Whirlpool machine would fail. Our last one lasted 15 years !

I contacted Whirlpool Canada about this problem and they agreed to send a technician to look at it. His comment was it was a definate premature failure and would cost around $425.00 (Can) to fix. Whirlpool have concidered this "a consession" and refuse to further take care of this problem. Clearly Whirlpool doesn't stand behind their product stating that 1 year is industry standard and basically "go pound salt".

My wife and I are VERY dissapointed with a company that commands a top rating in Comsumer Reports. We will NEVER buy another Whirlpool product again and nor would we recommmend their, or their subisduaries products.

Modern and Sleek looking - a pleasure
by: Anonymous

Last year, my husband and I purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio washing Machine. Since my laundry room is so small - I opted for the top load washing machine - and I'm glad I did. It is very easy to load from the top of the machine, saves space and I don't have to bend so much.

It has a 4.5 cubic foot tub - which for the first time I can wash my sons twin comforter in the washing machine, instead of bringing it to the laundrymat - which saves me time and money. It also has a lock mechanism when a wash is started - so I don't have to worry about my children putting their hands in the machine once its started.

It has a pause button to release the lock mechanism to add more clothes. It is very easy to operate with buttons clearly marked. I can choose from a super, large, medium or small load. I can also choose the soil level of my clothes - heavy, medium or light.

It also displays the time left for the wash to be completed. A "end of cycle signal" can also be used to notify you that your wash is done. It is energy star rated - which is important to our family. The noise level of the machine is very low. I cannot hear it at all unless I am in the laundry room. It has a separate compartment for the laundry detergent and bleach.

The only problem I ever had with the machine was once I over-loaded the machine - it rocked a bit because the clothes weren't evenly distributed in the wash. Once I arranged the clothes better in the loader - it was perfectly fine and didn't rock again.

Overall, I am very please with the Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine. It is very modern and sleek looking. My clothes always come out clean. I have never had a problem with my clothes getting wrapped around or entangled in the machine. As I stated before - the top loading is an absolute pleasure. I highly recommend this product.
