I completely agree, and I'll even go one step further. Not only will buttoning and zipping your clothing save wear on your machine, it saves wear on the other clothing items you are washing. I have had clothes torn by the zippers of other pieces of clothing.

Wow! I have never thought about this tip! I have my washing machine going right now, and I can hear the buttons and zippers baning around in there. I bet that really does a lot of damage. I'm going to go take care of that immediately!
