General Electric IronModel # 169134 With Retractable Cord

This iron is one of the worst that I have ever owned. The water well that you need to fill for the steam setting is oddly shaped and poorly designed. It is hard to fill and water spills everywhere. The temperature setting dial seems easy to understand but the iron doesn't match the correct temperature to meet each setting. I've scorched collars and sleeves of some of my fairly expensive dress shirts.

It also tends to leak water from around the metal face especially while I'm not using the steam setting.

The manual and box claim that this is an auto shut off model, but mine doesn't seem to turn off. I tested it out, because I have a tendency to not shut things off before leaving the house. I left it on for an hour while I watched TV and it stayed hot the entire time.

I am also noticing things stick to the face when set to the correct temperature setting. I was told it would be non stick. It also flakes and makes cracking sounds when I'm using it for more than 5 minutes.

The only good thing that I have found is the retractable cord. It is long enough to reach fairly long distances and retracts easily. That is a great feature as it makes it easy to store when not in use.

I am very unhappy with this iron because it is cheaply made and doesn't do the job it is supposed to.

It may be my own fault as I chose this iron because of it's low price. I guess you get what you pay for. I'm waiting for this one to break to give me an excuse to buy a newer and better model. How can the maker of this product sleep at night?

I could tell the second I read GE & Walmart on the bottom NEW
by: Anonymous

Daughter just gave me one to sell. I haven' even tested it yet, but judging by the comments, all I have to say is:

What the H else would you expect in an electrical appliance from EITHER GE or Walmart?

I'm not even going to waste the time testing it--just going to put it on the "free table."

Thanks, everyone, for your comments.

OOPS! Hope I don't go to HELL. "Judge not, or ye shall be judged."

Awful Iron NEW
by: Florida Gator Engineer

For only 1 year old to cop out I'd say this is the one of the worse irons made. Cord spring was never strong enough to retract in all the way. Always went out an purchased distilled water to use in it. Mine is just about year old now, barely heats all the way, and can no longer make steam. I can put my hand on the ironing surface when on..gets about as warm as a heating pad. I tried cleaning with a little vinegar, seemed to work once, now 1 week later doing the same thing barely warm again. Also, as a matter of reference the temp setting pointer of insufficient size and color white and do to the handle color and placement barely visible, so unless you have at least 20-20 you'll need a microscope to see the damn thing. The only reason I gave it a star because the ironing surface is good (when its working).

It's a good iron NEW
by: Anonymous

I am in visit to my daughter in Edmonton. I found this iron very good in spite of spilling very rarely.
P. S. Ours is not retractable. I assume it's the same we are talking about?
Q:When back to Lebanon, can I find that product?
Would you answer me at mikhazen@gmail.com?

This iron sucks NEW
by: Charlene

The iron leaks while being used and the handle gets so hot that you can't hold it to long.

8 years old
by: Anonymous

I bought this iron 8 years ago and it still works like I just took it out the box. It doesn't look flawless but none of the wording has rubbed off. I love the auto off feature but I mainly bought it for the retractable cord. The trick is to tip the iron to the right as you press the retract button. Completely retracts flawlessly each time. I would have bought at least 16 different irons by now had I not purchased this one 8 years ago. So worth the money.

A very solid and great product
by: Anonymous

I am in no way an expert in iron, but this one has everything that i need.
The retractable cord is awesome so it never gets in the way of anything.
Heats up fast and leaves the clothes ironed perfectly.

There is a little bit of water spill when I steam but nothing that would actually interfere with the ironing itself. It glides over the fabric easily and it is a very smooth use.

Also it looks good an stylish, so you do not have to hide it in your closet, you can just leave it out in the open.

The price is right, at least at Walmart, less than thirty dollars, I can definitely handle that.
This one is much better than my past iron, sorry do not remember the brand, and I would consider buying it again if this one stopped working. Although I head from a friend who also has one of those that they are very durable and will last for a long long time.

My only complaint is that sometimes it feels a little heavy, not too much though, nothing that will tire you our after a section of cloth ironing, unless that's all you do all day.
The water tank is very large and will hold a lot, so you don't have to keep on refilling it again and again.

Overall a very solid and great product. If you need an affordable and very good iron, this is the one for you. I always liked GE stuff, they are always very solid and reliable. Good brand, never had a problem with it.

Anyone looking to buy a new iron I would highly recommend this one.

Safe, affordable, and easy to use
by: Anonymous

This General Electric iron is the perfect iron for a person who needs a great iron with customizable settings, but is safe, affordable, and easy to use. For starters, it has an easy turn dial to select the type of fabric that needs ironing, from cotton, to wool and silk, to nylon. It also has a variety of steam settings that are easy to use.

Another great feature about this product is the retractable cord reel. With just a press of a button, the cord winds up inside the machine, so there's no hassle having to wait for your iron to cool down to wind up your cord. This little appliance also offers peace of mind with an automatic shut off feature. If the iron is left turned on for an extended period of time, it will automatically turn off.

In addition, this machine has slip guards to prevent it from falling over when not in use when standing on end. Add a trusted name like General Electric, and you have yourself a great piece of equipment that will give you wrinkle free clothing for some time to come.

Overall, I really like this iron. I have been using it for over two years, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants a reliable iron.
