by Heidi Marsh
(Reston, VA USA)

Always use stain treater on soiled clothes before washing - especially if you have kids!

Use bleach on white socks to keep them that way.
Use fabric softener.

Take clothes out of dryer as soon as they're done to avoid wrinkling.

Don't overload washer.

Keep dryer lint screen clean.

Use gentle cycle for delicates.

Common sense: Keep whites, colors, delicates, and sheets and towels separate.

White Vinegar
by: Amanda

Try using white vinegar instead of fabric softner. If you put about 3/4 cup in the rinse cycle it acts as a natural fabric softner, saves money, is eco-friendly and keeps your HE washing machine clean all at the same time!

Sort Your Laundry
by: Amanda B

Now, I know this sounds elementary. BUT how many people actually do this anymore? Not very many people! At least not in the 20somethings generation. I didn't used to sort my laundry but recently started doing so - it made a world of difference.

Oxy Clean (spray)
by: Anonymous

I got lipstick on my bone colored capri's that are my favorite pair and thought OMG i'll never get it out. I sprayed a little Oxy Clean on the stain and used a soft cloth and it just rubbed it away. Amazing stuff and would recommend it as one of the best pre-treaters. It says not to let it dry but I washed them two days later and the material was fine. It works as well on kids clothes.

100% agree
by: nm

We all know that you must be a mommy! These are great idea's for the first timers or the experienced. I always instruct for the laundry to be done that way, and my children are following in my shoes too. I would add that tide and woolite laundry detergents are fabulous, and are worth a few more dollars. Great tips!

q-tip
by: Anonymous

while some white cant be bleached for having dyes in some of the garment. i have used a q-tip dipped in bleach (clorox) and dapped it on the area. PRETREAT! its best to let sit and add some water to the area before putting into wash to make sure that the bleach will not get into wash, also bleach pens work great. for such items as shoes and shoe laces. hope this helps great post!

The wrinkling part
by: Anonymous

I do agree with you about the wrinkling part. Instead of ironing your clothes after you wash them; just take them out of the dryer as soon as they are done. Great post.

stain treaters
by: Anonymous

If you forget the stain treatment or can't use some of the ones on the market go to the nearest dollar store pick up either liquid or poweder dishwasher soap and add to wash just before agitation. It keeps whites white and get out anything from blood to grass stains.
